Reducing Waste in Design and Manufacturing: Make It British Live! 2020

The Make It British Live! trade show is scheduled for March 17-18 at the Business Design Centre in Islington. It will feature 200+ exhibitors showcasing UK manufacturers of textiles, clothing, and homeware.

The event includes talks and panels by industry experts, including the Future Fashion Factory team. They will hold a panel on ‘Reducing Waste in Design and Manufacturing’ at 13.30 on Tuesday, March 17.

During the panel, industry partners will discuss ways to reduce waste throughout the product design and manufacturing process.

Furthermore, Future Fashion Factory’s research focuses on sustainability and circular economies, providing a foundation for a more sustainable future.

Speakers

Among the confirmed speakers for the panel is Julie Roberts, Marketing Manager at AW Hainsworth, a Leeds woollen mill.

The mill recently published its first sustainability report, outlining its approach to various topics such as the provenance of its fibers and support for its workforce.

Additionally, AW Hainsworth collaborated with Yorkshire Textiles on the New Heritage Cloth project, which provides fashion designers with short runs of bespoke cloth.

The project offers unique fabric opportunities while reducing waste. The first funding call made this project possible.

James Appleyard, Sales Director at Deluxe Beds, will join the panel to discuss the company’s approach to reducing waste through product design, which is aligned with Future Fashion Factory’s commitment to sustainability.

The funding received through our call will support their efforts in promoting a more circular economy.

Deluxe Beds takes a proactive approach to sustainability in the manufacturing industry by focusing on product design.

Lucy Blackley, founder, and CEO of Bombyx PLM, will join the panel, bringing over a decade of experience in product development for major brands.

She now supports fashion businesses with PLM software that enables more efficient design and manufacturing and increases transparency throughout the value chain.

The software is being introduced to fashion design degree programs at the University of Leeds, offering students hands-on experience with a key digital industrial tool to support their career aspirations.

You can also meet the Bombyx team on our Future Factory stand, Y2, to learn more about their technology.
